JANET'S SERIOUS SIDE
Vic Armijo, Borrego Springs, CA.
June 14, 2011
True, Janet Christiansen is kind of quirky and is a bit of a joker, but she's also a serious competitor. By the time she reached the desert town of Borrego Springs on this first day of RAAM 2011, she'd wisely donned a dust mask to combat the dust particles and dry air that have led to the lung issues that have plagued many RAAM racers.
Christiansen mentioned that the days 95 degree heat had brought on thigh cramps, but they didn't seem to slow her down. At Borrego Springs she was pedaling at a good clip just minutes behind overall women's leader Leah Goldstein.
