We found women’s 50+ leader Kathy Roche-Wallace on a gloriously beautiful Monument Valley morning today. She seemed in good spirits as we exchanged pleasantries about the day. Later we found her and her crew stopped so that she could step into the motor home for a clothing change. When she emerged we saw her don a second pair of shorts. That’s a common RAAM practice for those wanting to prevent issues with the “saddle contact area.” The second outer pair is worn inside-out. The extra padding helps and since the fabric of the two pairs of shorts can slide over one another, it helps prevent chafing.
Aside from her “poor little tushy” as Roche-Wallace put it, she’s having a great RAAM. She has a huge lead over second place age 50+ racer Debbie Tirrito and has also logged more miles than Caroline van den Bulk in the under 50 category.
When she reached time station 13 at Montezuma Creek, UT, her stats were 763.60 miles in 3 days, 2 hours and 8 minutes.
