Vic Armijo / Pratt, Kansas

Less than a couple of hours ago we passed third place RAAM male solo Gerhard Gulewicz (Austria) outside of Montezuma, Kansas. As luck would have it I got a shot of him in nearly the exact spot as I did a year ago.

Last year Gulewicz was in second place by this point, chasing the late, great Jure Robic. This year while he's in fourth, he is actually a few hours ahead of where he was on this day a year ago, and judging by his appearance, he's doing much better physically this year. This morning he was smiling and talking as we passed, whereas last year he was a bit more--shall I say--Zombie-like.

Hang in there Gerhard, ride your own race. The halfway point is still ahead and anything can happen.
