THIS MORNING WAS YESTERDAY

Vic Armijo / Congress, AZ.

June 15 to June 16, 2011

I’m currently sitting at the Congress, AZ time station. It’s closing in on 1:00 a.m. My day began on Wednesday morning in Oceanside where I shot a ton o’ photos at the start. The RAAM Media 1 van rolled on to time station 1 at Lake Henshaw and I shot a ton o’ more photos on the way. I shot a bunch more on the famous descent down the “Glass Elevator” to Borrego Springs. Then we high-tailed it here to beautiful downtown Congress in hopes of catching up with the 60+ men and the women, or the "Ladies and Gentlemen" as I like to put it.

Outside of Congress we came upon age 60+ rider Dex Tooke, who was in good spirits as he pedaled through the Arizona night. “It sure was a hot one today!” he commented. Which means a lot coming from a Texan. Indeed. When we met Dave Ellersbee (another 60+ racer) here in Congress, his crew told us that it had been 115 degrees earlier in the desert. Whew!

Dave too was in good spirits, despite the day’s heat and his having gotten only a half hour sleep since his Tuesday morning departure from Oceanside. We found him getting a thorough once over which included a sponge bath, leg massage, meal and a hearty send-off into the night.

My sparse content from today (actually yesterday, meaning Wednesday) will be more than rectified in the coming hours once I’ve had a few hours of shut-eye. Check back for more details on yesterday's action and some nice shots too.
